I have recently watched a few rather disturbing documentaries about religion. A touchy subject to say the least. These documentaries stated that 46% of Americans believe the earth is less than 10,000 years old. Really!? This, to me, is completely absurd. The fact that nearly half of Americans are comfortable saying “I reject the vast majority of the scientific community and their mountain of evidence because the bible says so” ,even though the bible also states that a man lived inside a giant fish for 3 days, baffles me. I think that the logical, reasonable few have an obligation to challenge radical religious conservatives because religion is dangerous. In todays world, laws are being made based on the illogical views of religious extremists. We live in a world of discrimination based on beliefs that are thousands of years old that have little to no evidentiary support. I think it’s time for an age of enlightenment that no longer tolerates belief without reason. I think that it’s time for reason and logic to prevail over ignorance. I think religion needs to end.
